I haven’t blogged in quite some time and a lot has gone on in the Central Valley MMA scene.

For one, Lavar Johnson made his UFC debut knocking out Joey Beltran. A task that seemed impossible since no one was able to put down the Hispanic zombie. In a few days Johnson will enter the cage against known striker, Pat Berry on the UFC on Fox card.

In this fight people should expect to see fireworks but Berry has been saying that he wants to win by submission. It could put a wrench in the gears of the two behemoths having a slug fest of a fight. Lavar will swing for the fences looking for the knockout victory.

Also on that UFC card is Fresno resident, Josh Koscheck he will be taking on Johny Hendricks.

Kocheck had been a part of American Kickboxing Academy for seven years and owns two gyms that shared the AKA brand name. Koscheck left AKA and changed his Fresno gyms to the name, Dethrone Base Camp.

Visalia’s Doug “The Rhino” Marshall is back in action competing in India on the Super Fight League 3 card against Zela Galesic.

Last time Marshall was in action he won in 21 seconds against Richard Blake at Twilight Fight Night.

A new promotion has also popped up in the Central Valley. 559 Fights features live amateur fights and pay-per-view fights.

The first show was a success and they intend on having another show near the end of the month. The fighters featured on the card hail from the top fight camps from California. While cultivating future MMA stars you get to watch the UFC PPV that is on. Now, that is awesome.

Tachi Palace Fights continues to feature top talent. The main event features Joe Soto, who continues to climb up the ranks. In his last fight, Soto defeated Chris David by submission.

The card also features local talent like Poppies Martinez, Paul Ruiz, and Art Arciniega.

Another promotion is going to have a show in June. West Coast Fighting Championship will feature TPF veteran, Jesse Bowen taking on Andre Fili for the 145 lb. strap.

Also, Anthony Ruiz will take on Angel De Anda for the light heavyweight title.

This should be an interesting fight, I have never thought about these two colliding. My idea had always been for Ruiz to battle Doug Marshall.

De Anda is a good fighter but nobody really knows about him unless they have seen him nearly put away James Irvin or they know him or have seen his fights at heavyweight in Gladiator Challenge.

De Anda’s fellow teammate, “Bad” Brad McDonald will be fighting as well. Brad is coming back from a loss to Francisco Rivera at the TPF.

Marcus Gaines will be competing against UFC and Strikeforce vet, Scott Smith fir the middleweight title. Mark Matthews will also be featured on the card as well.

Dustin Ortiz will look to bounce back from the first loss of his career, as he replaces the man who handed him that defeat.

Ortiz has accepted a fight with Josh Rave at a catchweight of 126lbs at Tachi Palace Fights 11, replacing flyweight champion Ian McCall, who was forced out due to injury.

Tachi Palace Fights officials confirmed the switch on Monday.

With a 7-1 record overall, Ortiz is a great prospect in the flyweight division, but came up short in his efforts to defeat McCall earlier this year.

Now he’ll try to get back on track as he faces Josh Rave at Tachi Palace Fights 11.

The Tachi Palace Fights 11 card goes down this Friday, Dec 2 in California.
