When Elite Combat Sports was coming into its genesis, it had one agenda, one goal: “to provide a platform for top-notch amateur MMA and Muay Thai athletes a springboard to thrust them into the final step of becoming a professional fighter”. The first step was building a solid stable of talent and gyms to compete throughout CA, showcasing the ability of each camp and their fighters.

Next was searching high and low to find a way to convey this great action to the audience. I’m sure most MMA fans can agree. When watching a fight card, the commentating can make or break the experience. We have all at some point had to mute the TV or Podcast because we were tired of hearing Phil Baroni fumble through a bout, trying to punch-drunkenly explain what he clearly doesn’t understand. A better example of this is tuning in to watch a Strikeforce event and hearing Mauro Ranallo talk about up kicks over and over while trying to figure out if a punch came from the left side or the right.

Elite Combat Sports has an answer to this ever-frustrating issue; enter Jon “Mots” Motsenbocker. Formerly of 1550AM Sporting News Radio, he has been a presence in the local California MMA scene since it began. If you ask anyone in the sport who is the anchor of small MMA in Cali, it’s Mots and cageradio.com. Loved by some, hated by many, but respected by all, Mots calls it how he sees it. He is brutally honest, which has built the tough respect few get. Think of the The Mouth of the South Jimmy Hart, only without all the airbrushed clothes. In fact, if they would allow him to bring a megaphone, I’m sure he would. He’s got the perfect balance of charisma and knowledge to keep the audience entertained and informed throughout any fight.

The man accompanying Mots knows all about the feeling of stepping into the cage and hearing that steel door lock behind him. He is Dominique “Fallen Angel” Robinson. The most interesting thing about having Robinson at the desk is that, unlike most fighters turned mic men, he is still a very active fighter. Sporting a record of 7-4, Robinson has experienced his share of flat out wars.

With the decorated balance of recent experience and pro knowledge of combat coming from Fallen Angel, and entertaining color analysis from the man who knows the most, Mots, Elite Combat Sports has placed the final piece in place to stake their claim in CALIFORNIA as the undisputed proving grounds for the top level amateur action.

TACHI PALACE FIGHTS THIS FRIDAY NIGHT… is a post from: CAGERADIO

I know, I rarely blog and that’s usually because I have nothing to say. But that has changed for the moment.

The last Tachi Palace Fights card was awesome. The amount of talent put on those cards is fantastic and these are guys could go into the UFC on any day. If there are fans that haven’t been yet then you need to realize that the UFC isn’t the only thing out there.

I made some observations while I was out there. One was that Shawn Tompkins is an amazing coach. During the “Hulk Hands” fight he was the only person in his corner and gave him solid advice and kept pushing him to succeed. I know that’s what he is suppose to do but I have heard some corner men yell out some crazy stuff and I would wonder why they were there in the first place.

Fallen Angel did a great job in his fight against John Gunderson. That fight showed me, you can have the best trainers in the world and fall apart in a fight. I was also impressed with Angel’s armbar attempt; I didn’t know he had it in him.

I also watched as two guys that have tremendous skill on the ground can become human punching bags. That was the case in the flyweight fights. Jussier da Silva won one round and got beat up for the next two. This guy was considered by many (not Cage Radio) to be the best flyweight in the world. If you are the best flyweight fighter in the world you have to have more than a ground game. His ground game is suspect too, if you take the back of a fighter and can’t pull off a submission from there.

In the other fight, Ulysses Gomez who I never really have seen as a striker got beat up for five rounds against Darrell Montague. He was wincing from blood getting into his eye but was that the key factor for him circling away and backing off the whole fight?

UFC heavyweight champion, Cain Velasquez was in the Central Valley recently at AKA 2. The autograph session should have started at one but it didn’t. I don’t know when it did started but if you say you are having an event start it on time.

I would like to say thank you to everyone who listens to The Not So Happy Hour. We have been doing the show for over a year and love hearing people talk about it. We are trying to bring you (the fans) bigger name fighters and basically who ever will come on. If you want to come on the show contact anybody involved with Cage Radio and we will try to make that a reality. (Unless its Fedor because that would be impossible. We could probably get UFC 3 champion, Steve Jennum or Harold Howard on instead.)

Just 365 days ago, I started this TV Show, in downtown Fresno. I was on Sporting News Radio, about 6 months before, doing another show, Called “Beyond The Cage”. Beyond The Cage, was supposed to get picked up from some other MMA Media outlets. It never happened.

I needed to figure out a way to get free tickets to the fights! I created Cageradio.com. I started my TV show, in downtown Fresno at Mike Brigg’s Internet based station, called  ”Central Valley Talk”. I stayed at that station for about 4 months, and decided I could do all this from my house. SO, I built a small little studio and bought a Apple computer, with a build in camera. The rest my friends is history…

I want to thank all of you for supporting Cageradio.com. I know you have many options when it comes to MMA news, and I truly appreciate the mass following I have gained in just 365 days!
